Great Ignatius Study Bible Updates for our beloved Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. Part 1

Release   August 8th, feast of St Dominic  Update Aug 10   Aug 13

Thank you gentlemen: 25 years in the making and what an amazing tool for study, the Ignatius Bible is!!  You have produced with the guidance we are sure of the Holy Spirit.  Patrick Madrid and others highly recommend it and it only took 3 months for me to get the first copy, finally from Scott’s St Paul ministry.  Now Amazon even has it in short stock and the second came quick.  But a couple of recommends from this dad of 11 kids, 15 10 hens, 8 quail and currently 22 grandkids.   Minor edits, if you will.  You two of course are the wise editors.

The scholarship is incredible: please bear with this lowly Catholic apologist and seasoned exhortationist (very minor to the Scott, Patrick, Drew, Curtis and Trent fab five). Not to mention Doctor Doctor Father Rocky

I’m not even in the same league as  Fr KIA or Know it all, what with his excellent Simonyms. Have you heard of his new country “Reallyreallybadastan”.

My better moniker, if you need one, is of course Exhortationist and promoter of the Eucharistic Renaissance, the Age we find ourselves in this second half of 2025. For as part of the new Eucharistic Renaissance, the tools are there revived for the spiritually hungry Catholic to spread: Great news since the Father conceptualized His Son as the Ultimate Gift from the non beginnings of eternity long before He even created the humans two: Adam and Eve.

As perfect as the new St Ignatius Bible is, here are some requested updates to the commentary section for next printing.   Actually, just two, Scott and Curtis, in this episode of suggestions.  More in the future if you don’t ban me from applying to that exclusive AwesomeApologistsofAmerica club, Catholic of course.

  1.  Passover & Friday the 13th in the first Hebrew month of Abib/aka Nisan

John 19:31.  This is such a beautiful passage, of historical significance, but the commentary leaves both the avid and novice reader wanting.  It’s  almost like an afterthought and skipped in the commentary section: “the sabbath that week was a high one.”   Just how high was it? And…

Why? Because, even though the first Mass was coincident with the Last Supper and Neo Passover fulfillment, the re enactment of the Jewish Passover in circa 33AD followed the true purpose from centuries before: On Friday the 13th in the Hebrew month of Abib/Nissan.

Of course, the LAST supper is synchronistic with the FIRST Mass, and the true fulfillment of the 10th plague that got the Israelites out from under pharaoh’s thumb.

How do we know it?

By consulting other Scriptures, specifically from the Torah, the first books of the Canonical Catholic bible, plus Joshua and not to mention John’s Gospel.

In Exodus, after nine plagues, God outlined for the enslaved Chosen people what He wanted them to do because He was sending His most severe plague to Egypt, the tenth one.

Exodus 12  verse 1:* This month will stand at the head of your calendar; you will reckon it the first month of the year.a   We know it even today, as the month of Abib/Nissan; today Israel and the Jewish people celebrate their lunar year 5785.  The current Jewish calendar from Chabad.org:

“The very first commandment given to Jews while they were still in Egypt was to create a calendar based on the cycle of the moon: “And G‑d said to Moses … in the land of Egypt … This month is for you, the head of the months; first it is for you among the months of the year.”1
The Midrash points out that the Hebrew words for “this month” are הַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶה, lit., “this renewal.” In other words, G‑d showed Moses the moon in its time of renewal and said to him, “When the moon renews itself, you will have a new month.”2
However, it should be noted that the Jewish calendar is actually a luni-solar calendar.  Although the months of the year follow the lunar cycle, we are commanded to keep the holidays in their proper seasons. If we were to only go by the lunar cycle (as some cultures do), we would have a problem. The solar cycle is approximately 365 days, while the lunar year is approximately 354 days, so the lunar calendar would fall behind the solar calendar by 11 days each year, throwing off the holidays. For example, the holiday of Passover, which is meant to be celebrated in the spring, would eventually fall out in the winter.”

Fascinating information…however for our purposes, read on…

Exodus 12 continues:

“For on this same night I will go through Egypt, striking down every firstborn in the land, human being and beast alike, and executing judgment on all the gods of Egypt—I, the LORD!
13 But for you the blood will mark the houses where you are. Seeing the blood, I will pass over you; thereby, when I strike the land of Egypt, no destructive blow will come upon you.
14 This day will be a day of remembrance for you, which your future generations will celebrate with pilgrimage to the LORD; you will celebrate it as a statute forever.
15 For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. From the very first day you will have your houses clear of all leaven. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day to the seventh will be cut off* from Israel.
16 On the first day you will hold a sacred assembly, and likewise on the seventh. On these days no sort of work shall be done, except to prepare the food that everyone needs.
17 Keep, then, the custom of the unleavened bread,d since it was on this very day that I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. You must observe this day throughout your generations as a statute forever.
18 From the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month until the evening of the twenty-first day of this month you will eat unleavened bread.

A Franciscan U professor discusses the backgrounder of each of the 10 plagues, leading up to the most prophetic and historically relevant, even today: the Passing over of Israel firstborn boys by the angel of death of God’s chosen.  Integral to our Salvation History…

When you read John 19, it’s no stretch that the “high” day was the re-enactment as God directed in His sacred texts, of Passover.

When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.

The Blood and Water vs breaking Our Lord’s legs.   Verse 31 is the critical clue to why the Eucharist was instituted bloodlessly on the same day Jesus was crucified: Preparation Day was the Abib 13 and Sabbath was Abib 14 AND Passover 1.0

31Now since it was preparation day, in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken and they be taken down.

32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus.

33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs,

34 but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

Next, in Deuteronomy 16:

Observe the month of Abib* by keeping the Passover of the LORD, your God, since it was in the month of Abib that the LORD, your God, brought you out of Egypt by night.

Yet another reference to Passover with Moses’ successor in Joshua 5:”

Then the LORD said to Joshua: Today I have removed the reproach of Egypt from you.e Therefore the place is called Gilgal* to the present day.
10f While the Israelites were encamped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they celebrated the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month.
11On the day after the Passover they ate of the produce of the land in the form of unleavened cakes and parched grain. On that same day
12after they ate of the produce of the land, the manna ceased. No longer was there manna for the Israelites, who that year ate of the yield of the land of Canaan.g
Fascinating that manna, the bread from heaven ceased as Moses’ successor Joshua honored the Passover on the 14th day of Abib, the first month like our January, in Israel.  Want to see the current Jewish calendar, go to chabad.org to see it is still valid today, though the Mass has superceded, if you will, completed a key reason for Pass over after years of enslavement during ancient times.

Thus, the sabbath, ie Saturday, that week (of  the last supper following Palm Sunday) was a high feast day.  What feast was close in time?  The Jewish Passover.   In Exodus, God ordained the 14th of the first Jewish month would be celebrated each year as Passover; the year Jesus died, it was Saturday the 14th.    Simple math: Jesus instituted the Eucharist and died on Friday the 13th.  QED.

Yet, our modern society believes Friday the 13ths, not as re enactments of the Eucharist and the crucifixion but superstitiously an unlucky day.  Did you know those floating hotels called cruise ships and most major land based hotels skip the 13th floor?  Going from 12 to 14 is an odd way to avoid luck.  But for us Catholics and Christian sects, Friday the 13th undeniably is the LUCKIEST day for us.

Truth be told: it is only UNlucky to hell, because the opponent, translation of the Hebrewized Persian name satan, the devil believed he had won, killed off his chief nemesis, the Eternal Son of the Living God.   But “old hairy legs” satan had NO control over, Easter Sunday, sealed OUR luck as followers of Christ in the Catholic Church for an eternity…and beyond.

So, Scott and Curtis, how about a little revision to the commentary on this.  I believe it IS pertinent and helpful for our troubled age though the recent upturn in reverts and new converts to the Bride of Christ is a promising sign this Renaissance is picking up steam, due in part to the years of the Eucharistic Pilgrimages and Revival.

Note this irony: in verse 14 above (“…which your future generations will celebrate with pilgrimage to the LORD”) can you see that OUR Eucharistic Journey is a future now present pilgrimage celebration of the Lord of the NEW Covenant.

Bishop Cozzens and the National Eucharistic Congress should be applauded for their fearless courage to bring Catholics back to the Real Presence.

The four pilgrim routes in July 2024 to the NEC and this year, the Katharine Drexel, patroness of the 2025 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage route that ended at Our Lady Queen of the Angels Cathedral yet another pilgrimage to this time of rebirth.

Why do you think the Pope of Hope XiV Leo the Lover was voted in precisely on a Marian 8th date, May 8, 2025?!!   No COincidence with God: definitely a Godincidence that heralds a new age in our Church.

The signs are ALL around us and numerous which we will cite in a later piece.   Never forget: Friday the 13th was no accident.  NOR unlucky.    People of God, at 73, I am a bit tired of our lack of fearlessness, courage and compassion; we hid like lemmings through Covid, a serious unforced error giving hell much more credit than its worth.  Boldness must be our disposition and our banner for literally the world is dying every day we tarry in our fears.

Now for the easy one:  have you ever wondered, peering at the ceiling in your bunny foofoo jammies, why Mary was sent to Fatima on six successive 13ths, not 6 successive first Thursdays or 2nd Tuesdays (normal Tacotime)?

Plus, the last on Oct 13th had 70,000 witnesses see the first SunDance festival, freaking out pretty much everyone there!!  13 IS the Trinity number, ONE God in 3 persons.   God I believe did this six 13s in a row for dramatic emphasis, just as He designed and had built the Eucharistic Direction Finder at the center of the world.  NOT the earth: at the world’s central point.   See Isaiah 19:19-20 for detail and yes, Scott and Curtis, a teeny suggestions for the commentary update

2. Our ancient Middle Eastern forefathers lived real long, easily counted lives !!

Theory: when God created Adam and Eve as perfect as possible humans, with expectation of living forever in the Garden, wouldn’t their descendants have similar?  Even outside the Garden, the atmosphere for long lives was in play.  UNTIL the recreative massive “remodel” of the earth in Noah’s day commonly called, after 120 years of shipbuilding, the Flood.   Trust the truth, people of God: it was MUCH more than a flood.

Sadly, even though I do love Trent ‘death cookie’ Horn and the prolific Fr Mike Schmidt (I hope he still has his LA $2 bill), I must ask for Curtis & Scott to reconsider Genesis 5 commentary before the next printing of Ignatius Study OT/NT.

A frank reflection on the totality of Creation is a must before the milk toast deflection in the commentary on just how long humans HAVE and can live.  With all due respect, it needs a little meat.  Even, the famous Patrick Madrid got close but fell a little short in making the Quantum Leap in one of his recent morning presentations.  Maybe I am live wrong or dead on: but it’s worth a look:

  1. Why give such short shrift to people actually living 969 years?  The majority of the cited ages are odd numbers, meaning the Gen 5 account should be considered as a birthday/life span log, not a Sumerian King 25,000 year exaggeration.   First look through the list (here’s one of many) and you don’t really see a long list of  “approximations” or even “exaggerations”.   The Sumerians claimed their king was 25,000 years old, which IS both an exaggeration AND an approximation. But  not  the  accounts contained in the revealed Word of God and the Torah’s Genesis.
  2. At the same time, do we discount Noah’s 120 years with non-Ryobi DeWalt tools turning gopher wood into a three story boat an exaggeration as well? We know Noah existed, since the Eucharistic Renaissance Gift of the Father, Jesus, referred to Him specifically.  And Noah was a mere 480 years old when he started…why couldn’t human beings BEFORE the flood live extraordinarily long lives?  After all, the earth needed to be populated and you don’t get to a billion by wishing.
  3. In the geneologies, notice even though Enoch had the shortest recorded life B4 the Flood, he was recorded at 365 years old before God sent His Elfan boat to pick Enoch up.  Ok, too much Lord of the Rings.  But however God took him home we have to wait until heaven to ask yet another question.
  4. Psalm 139:13-14 - Bible verse (NKJV) - DailyVerses.netIRREDUCiBLE Complexity.   This is a great theory that debunks atheistic evolution but it also can be used logically to show 777-969 years could be pretty ordinary.  Early men and women’s bodies, like any of us today, have 35-70 trillion cells EACH; each intricately designed and made.  That verse in psalms, 139:14, shouts this dichotomy of proof that 969 years was what God’s talented design created AND, drum roll, it fits the pattern that rebellious mankind LOST this opportunity to live insanely long lives on earth.   Imagine, sitting around the campfire outside the tents, having intergenerational discussions between great great great grandparents, who were fit as a fiddle, not skeletons and you and your siblings, gaining from their aged wisdom.
  5.   Let your eyes and mind think these numbers  through: 930,912,905,910,895,962,365,969,777,950,600,438,433,464,239,230,148,205,175.  Do they look like approximations (rounded numbers) or exaggerations (no 25,000 Sumerian king claim): random yet declining after the Flood event.  Review the ideas, the attempt to rationalize alternatives A,B,C & D in the Genesis 5 commentary (page  65):

A: Theory that Ages are real as if the Holy Spirit can count. “Concern that Adam~Abram is 20 generations over only 2000 years and the human race spans only 6000 years.  So??  Wow! Imagine that:  all those  billions of years  atheistic  evolutionists having heart attacks. Make sure they don’t look at the Jewish calendar (currently year 5785!!)  People of God, no one alive today was there 6000 years ago, let alone billions upon billions.   Suppose the recorded ages are drum roll, RECORDED AGES?  Worth fleshing out I believe. God did NOT need billions of years to make His universe; but once the atheistic evolutionists came aboard, billions of years was critical to their bizarre theories that man evolved from ape and NEVER giving proof how something came from nothing in the “beginning!”

  6. B: Years2months conversion theory is a nonstarter with children bearing children; reminds one of the St Anthony parish minister John Nowakowski’s excellent song “I am my own grandpa!”

  7. Alternative C: Clans NOT individual humans are listed theory.  Big problem is Jesus referred to Noah as a person, not a shipbuildng team and odd idea.  Clans would have different death ages except the one event, the ‘clan of world’s humanity’ dying on the first days of the cataclysm except for the boat people on the Survivors Ark.

  8. Alternative D: quote: “Perhaps the BEST hypothesis, and one that would help to explain both the biblical and Near Eastern data, is that giving primeval figures extememly long lives was a way of conceptualizing the great antiquity of mankind: illa est: this may be simply a literary technique used to assert the remarkable age of the human race itself”   OUCH!  Forgive me, great ones, but must we put the inspired Scriptures on the same playing field as Sumerian 25,000th birthdays?  “Conceptualizing the great antiquity of mankind” is well a bit soft on logic but high on double talk.   969 yr long lives means man’s spans shows man has long lives.  Square peg round hole time

Please take a tiny part of your lifespan to reflect on this: the universe is both macro and micro.  The width of the universe is estimated to be 535 sextillion miles wide, made up of billions (some say trillions) of stars, galaxies, supernovae, comets etc.   On earth, our six sextillion ton ball of joy was created (ok atheistic evolutionists, you need billions of years though God doesn’t because He’s no changeling) then inhabited with millions of plants and animals, billions maybe trillions of insects like the cockroach and mosquito (who serve some purpose), but God started with just two.  Adam and Eve.

Before dismissing true lifespans verses as allegorical, realize how PRECISE God has been from ALL eternity, a concept we mere humans cannot completely grasp…actually, barely grasp.

Do we really think God can’t record 969 trips around the sun for Methuselah while designing and creating two distinct human genomic homo sapiens, each with 35-70 trillion cells in various tissues, within many organs, 217 bones etc, and the organs systematically matched in ten body systems to take directions from a 100 trillion synapsed 3 pounds of matter brain?  Any God that can design and create that, has NO difficulty in counting His creations’ years and putting them in a birthday book we call Genesis: Beginnings!

And with that level of Perfection, tell me you doubt the Godhead couldn’t design humans to live perfectly long lives, inside and outside of the Garden?

We can’t be that blind should we analyze the why and how of this generational analysis.

Is it that difficult to believe that the first created beings, Adam and Eve lived into their 900s?  We know God created them to live forever in the Garden; even though they failed the test, their genetic superiority didn’t disappear as they left the Garden.

Then look at the others in the geneological accounts graphically seen above

Our new Pope Leo is a math whiz, like my Chesterton Academy Headmaster son Nathan and math genius Fr Holy Joe Horn of St Michael’s Abbey: all three could do a generational regression analysis; when plotted, as in the picture graph, they would see a linearly declining age spans AFTER the flood.  BEFORE the flood certainly NOT as dramatic as after.  You’ve heard of the vapor canopy theory?  Let’s review it because it is pertinent to this commentary deficiency.

Before the flood commenced, Genesis records the ages of the patriarchs: they are exceedingly long, in the 700-969 age range, proximate to “nearly perfect” bodies soon after God created man and woman; Patrick Madrid addresses this on July 3, 2025 but misses out on connecting these life spans, duly recorded, to the idea that humanity was NOT stupid and could record birthdays and how many years someone lived. Yes, I know the patriarchs were as advanced as us because they didn’t have gender reveals, but:  I get it; the ancients lacked the essentials of  computers to record 969 solar revolutions.  Or did we?

For example,  Noah’s life span before (600 yrs) and after, 350 is the critical transition life span, and Mrs Noah, his sons and their wives also but only Noah’s and Seth’s are charted in Scripture.

Common sense sets in:  his sons’ lifespans decreased precipitously as well, since so much of the “perfect” creation was gone, in part AND: they would be subject to much more cosmic and destructive solar radiation with no filtering mechanism left in the atmosphere, experienced aging in ways the pre flooders did not, prior to the worldwide cataclysmic remaking of the earth.

Conjecture?  Depends IF you research and prep.

Though not sure if this scholarly work is popular in Catholic circles, the book “The Waters Above” is a “scientific” review of the composition of the atmosphere, and the world just prior toThe Waters Above Earth's Pre Flood Vapor Canopy by Dillow Joseph C ... Noah’s shipbuilding operation over 120 years.

I know, I know, we build them much quicker, especially as we entered WWII. But Noah didn’t have Black and Decker, Craftsman, DeWalt, etc at the ready.   The mere fact it took 120 years for an adult and his sons to build the ocean liner, means taking 600-969 revolutions around the sun seems possible for the lifespans.

Seems a long time to build a boat, therein another proof people lived much longer lives before the flood.  Recall, Adam and Eve were destined to live forever in their human bodies and just because they trended long after the garden department closure, is no reason to magically become 120 years.  Factoid, we just buried a venerable sister at 116.   Where do these numbers come from? Genesis.

Theory goes, in the pre-SPF Hawaiian Tan sun block eras, as the body no longer was protected from cosmic rays and sun with an atmospheric vapor canopy, world wide, our cellular deterioration intensified. And lifespans decreased.   You can plot the math.  Actually it has already been done and we will post it below.

Proofs are out there. The Worldwide Tropics for instance; scientists have found undigested ferns in the stomach of wholly mammoths in the Siberian wilderness.  What does this mean?  The animal lived in the tropics and a sudden instantaneous deep freeze stopped its metabolic mechanisms.Genesis 1:6-8. The waters above the firmament

Question for the budding researchers:   ever built a ship to house two or seven pairs of every salvageable animal plus enough food so the  lions don’t feast on the lambs or Noah’s kids? 120 years sans Ryobi and electrical carpentry tools?  Seems reasonable IF as the Bible and Jesus referred to, Noah lived and lived long.

Just suppose God had created the perfect conditions for a much longer life than today, a la 116 for our beloved nun and the 117 years experienced by the Japanese gentleman?

You all know the account that God got angry with man, that led to the 40 days of massive waters coming down and from below. But, to believe my brothers in faith that believe God exaggerated or approximated the age at death of so many, defies logic.

God can’t count?  The Holy Spirit can’t inspire math?  Come on people!

Be honest and look at the secular record. The church seems to soft petal the obvious.  NO WHERE does God declare He needed billions of years to turn a primordial soup bowl into a male or female human.  In fact, 50-70 trillion celled beings from nothing are insane assertions as it is.  And our Church does not even remotely content that evolution created distinct sexes that can populate the earth from scratch.  Or first parents.  Point is, why do we cater to false ideologies, what to “fit in?”

Point is, God doesn’t need a billion or trillion; ONLY manipulative atheistic evolutionists want billions of years so they can claim God DOESN’T exist and not needed to show the splendor of this 55 sextillion mile wide universe.   And when you dig into the microworld as well as the macro, each level shows just how OMNIPOTENT our God is. And infinitely intricate His works.

Like with Covid response, carbon dioxide called pollution and other unforced CAtholic errors of judgement on the tennis court of life, it’s time to stop our wishy washy timidity in challenging the encyclopedic book of pseudoscientific theories.
