Postulate #1 Carbon dioxide is only evil if you want to further drain families and hurt the poor by foolish taxes and cons. Purposefully, “man made CO2 caused global warming” morphed to “man made climate change” once GW was proven a fool’s errand. Who can deny the climate changes? In fact, today, climate change scientists are telling the die hard global warming worshippers to cool it, until “man made climate change” becomes both a scientific AND Catholic/Christian dogma.
Facts: for the last 18 years, CO2 rose from 290-400 ppm WHILE no global warming was detected.
More ice signals less average worldwide heat EXCEPT in climate change symposia and ivory league towers. And sadly, interfaith climate meetings.
Popes correcting the science-Bible-faith historical record is not new.
November 1, 1992, after 13 years of study: (regarding Galileo and the earth) “This led them unduly to transpose into the realm of the doctrine of the faith, a question which in fact pertained to scientific investigation.” ~Pope St. John Paul the Great upon forgiving Galileo’s “heresies”, transforming him from heretic to scientific hero
===Yet on man created Climate change, we are trying, as a Church, to do the very same thing. Snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory…buying into new crises du jour…
Like sheep being led to the willing shearers, we Christians seem to desperately want to belong, to feel a part of the environmental pack that believes MAN not God creates Climate Change. And the stampede is gaining momentum over the cliff of ignorance. Should people of faith wonder why carbon dioxide was singled out as the demon du jour?
In middle school, we learned that a trace natural gas is essential for food (via photosynthesis) and life (the respiration cycle). Yet, this gas, whose chemical signature is CO2, is declared POLLUTION by the Supremes and the scientific intelligencia??!! How odd is that when we DIE without CO2? Humans need CO2 generated food just as much as oxygen to survive. Yes, the hierarchy of life is longer. We die without oxygen in seven minutes, absent water in 3 days roughly and a couple weeks without food, but we need all three.
But, First Cause, God, in addition to minor things like billions of stars, planets, biochemical photo processes, weather patterns and climate change, also created each specimen of mankind with 3 pounds of quadrillion dendrited cerebral mass, to think things through, use wisdom and not be suckered by agendas that counter God’s plan.
This includes Pope Francis, faith focused committees on the environment, even this father of 11 who humbly feeds his kids as a real estate professional…as well as a concerned conservationist environmental scientist.
There is precedent. Misunderstanding realities of the universe, and honest science, is not new. Galileo, for example, knew things others did not yet know and stood by their biased presupps. He even spoke about it.
From a letter i drafted on this subject in June 2014 for the USCCB and local interfaith environmental groups, I continue to be concerned about the “global warming” morphing to “climate change” and the family Carbon Tax juggernaut because believing a lie is never good. Galileo shares his thoughts on stubborn academics, supposedly learned people unwilling to be scientific:
A plea: Pope Francis, before you issue your environmental encyclical, might i humbly ask for a bit more truth and fact finding? USCCB the same? Please, before we make a mistake that will steal more from the poor and divert trillions away from families and good causes, let’s take a closer look at the real world.
Postulate #2 The sun provides an “…amount of solar energy reaching the surface of the planet (that) is so vast that in one year it is about twice as much as will ever be obtained from all of the Earth’s non-renewable resources of coal, oil, natural gas, and mined uranium combined”.
Carbon dioxide is NOT pollution and should not be the excuse to destroy man’s ability to feed families, do charitable works, help the poor nor bankrupt productive free market economies in favor of the socialist/Communist kind. Neo-Luddites must be exposed for their anti-life on earth beliefs. And turning God’s good creation into evil, demonizing CH4, commonly called natural gas or methane. Yes, Methane was created by God for man’s use as well as other so called fossil fuels…
Carbon is the basis of life on this planet. God created it this way. Carbon is in all biologics, and the building block of fuels that date back to the worldwide Noahidic flood that led to their formation. In fact, fellow sojourners, not all ‘fossil fuels’, the so-called non renewables, are created equal.
For example, demonized natural gas is 95 percent Methane (CH4), the newest target of Luddite in chief and his minions at the EPA. Methane is an essential, inexpensive and common family commodity piped into 95% of the homes of America, as well as Orange diocesan churches and rectories, schools, even the new Christ Cathedral.
In addition, it is made up of four other hydrocarbons: Ethane (C2H6) – 2.5%, Propane (C3H8) – 0.2%, Butane (C4H10) – 0.06%, Pentanes Plus (C5H12 + C10H22) – 0.02% It also contains small amounts of Nitrogen (N2) – 1.6%, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) – 0.7%, and smaller trace amounts of Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Water (H2O).
- Lighter than air
- Highly combustible and Clean burning
- Efficient and Abundant
- Odorless and invisible (An odorant, called mercaptan, is added to natural gas to make even the smallest leak easy to smell) and Non-absorbing and Non-corrosive
Hydraulic fracturing, a process hated by Hollywood but safe for over 100 years, has yielded vast more domestic oil and natural CH4 deposits WHILE the cost of oil has declined temporarily and precipitously.
Of course, lecherous politicians and radicalized environmentalists are looking for ways to go after both oil and natural gas.
What does this have to do with American bishops and Pope Francis?
Like many, I am a fan of St. Francis of Assisi. Using gasoline and natural gas is NOT counter to Assisi’s most famous saint.
Postulate #4. Corn derived Ethanol steals from the poor first, families second and and third world countries third but enriches leading eugenicist warren buffet and his son. Huh, where’d this come from?
Per Car and Driver, E85 ethanol fuel is 25% LESS efficient than E87 gasoline.
What GM’s Go Yellow ads don’t tell is that your fuel economy will drop by about 25 percent when you use E85 instead of apples to apples gasoline. For example, a four-wheel-drive Chevrolet Tahoe 1500 with a 5.3 V-8 and automatic has an EPA rating of 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway on gasoline but only 11 and 15 on E85. This info is not on the window sticker; indeed, we could not find it through any GM sources. This mileage drop is inescapable and directly proportional to the E85’s reduced energy content.
Are our American bishops, interfaith enviro committees and beloved Pope Francis willing to do the detail work before buying into faith based environmental dogma drafting? Do we want another Galileo fiasco? Are we willing to condone corn per bushel price rising from $2 per to $7 per, taking money out of the poor’s light pockets, transforming diverted food crops into car food fuels AND the resultant hurting the poor corn-based meal purchases like in Mexico and Argentina as well as food prices across the board?
EVERY economic decision, enviro or otherwise, has an attached cost/benefit impact.
Do we care that the poor, who prefer cheap food to pleasing ethanol anti gasoline environmental cocktail party Luddite banter in Sacramento? Most families “invested” the recent gas price drop “windfall” into luxuries like food and house payments, not yachts.
“In the beginning was the Word”
So, how much heat does the sun dish out and hwo do we receive it? We measure heat and light in different ways.
From ecoworld: “..the earth receives about 274 million gigawatt-years of solar energy, which translates to an astonishing 8.2 million “quads” of Btu energy per year. In case you haven’t heard, a “quad Btu” refers to one quadrillion British Thermal Units of energy, a common term used by energy economists. The entire human race currently uses about 400 quads of energy (in all forms) per year. Put another way, the solar energy hitting the earth exceeds the total energy consumed by humanity by a factor of over 20,000 times.”
That’s a lot of heat and light. Of course, the sun is only one million times as big as terra firma and ONLY converts 700 million tons of hydrogen per second to release energy.. Yet, we believe we men and women can change it.
From Wiki, we find out that the earth “…receives 174 petawatts (PW) of incoming solar radiation (insolation) at the upper atmosphere. Approximately 30% is reflected back to space while the rest is absorbed by clouds, oceans and land masses. The spectrum of solar light at the Earth’s surface is mostly spread across the visible and near-infrared ranges with a small part in the near-ultraviolet.
Earth’s land surface, oceans and atmosphere absorb solar radiation, and this raises their temperature. Warm air containing evaporated water from the oceans rises, causing atmospheric circulation or convection. When the air reaches a high altitude, where the temperature is low, water vapor condenses into clouds, which rain onto the Earth’s surface, completing the water cycle. The latent heat of water condensation amplifies convection, producing atmospheric phenomena such as wind, cyclones and anti-cyclones. Sunlight absorbed by the oceans and land masses keeps the surface at an average temperature of 14 °C. By photosynthesis green plants convert solar energy into chemical energy, which produces food, wood and the biomass from which fossil fuels are derived.
Solar energy can be harnessed at different levels around the world, mostly depending on distance from the equator. The total solar energy absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and land masses is approximately 3,850,000 exajoules (EJ) per year. In 2002, this was more energy in one hour than the world used in one year.
Photosynthesis captures approximately 3,000 EJ per year in biomass. The technical potential available from biomass is from 100–300 EJ/year. The amount of solar energy reaching the surface of the planet is so vast that in one year it is about twice as much as will ever be obtained from all of the Earth’s non-renewable resources of coal, oil, natural gas, and mined uranium combined,
An EJ or Exajoule is 1018 Joules or 278 billion kilowatt-hours (kW·h).
