Recently, at a forum on faith and science hosted by Fr. Spitzer, the excellent physicist and speaker/author, we exchanged a few words. I asked him what was his take on the possibility the Shroud was actually the Last Supper table altar cloth.
I view it as a video creed since it meets so much of our shared beliefs in the Nicene Creed’s (Greek: Σύμβολον τῆς Νικαίας or, τῆς πίστεως, Latin: Symbolum Nicaenum). Nicene comes from Nicaea (present day İznik, Turkey) from the First Council of Nicaea in 325. Godincidentally, 3/25 is the day Church tradition recognizes Jesus became Man on March 25 (9 months previous to Dec 25) via the conception, AND He died per the Gregorian calendar; Sindonologists Steve and Nancy and others recognize on the Jewish calendar, the Christ died on Friday the 13th month of Nisan.
After all, Jesus IS the center of HiStory, history, the world and of course Eternity. Look at some of the Nicene passages; highlighted in red those that the Shroud satisfy:
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten of the Father [the only-begotten; that is, of the essence of the Father, God of God,] Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father;
By whom all things were made [both in heaven and on earth];
Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down and was incarnate and was made man;
He suffered, and the third day He rose again, ascended into heaven…
In our brief converse, Fr Spitzer mentioned he wasn’t so sure about the bloodless Lamb of God events emblazoned on the Shroud, but that Mrs Jackson had been pestering him with this idea; she is the wife of the (Shroud of Turin Research Project) STURP commission lead Dr. John Jackson, that started investigating the Shroud of Turin in earnest a few decades ago.
I closed with this, though we didn’t see eye to eye: I tossed out the idea that as the impromptu funeral director, the secret wealthy disciple, Joseph of Arimathea (JofA)couldn’t find a funeral shoppe to get a proper burial shroud in the mayhem (even tho in Mark, JofA ‘having bought a linen cloth’ is mentioned, we the readers don’t know if he purchased it before the day of preparation and Last Supper…). And a couple other quick ideas.
I should have mentioned to the amazing Fr Spitzer the scripture about the woman who kept going to the judge over and over again and finally got her way. Sometimes, it’s good to listen to the lady! Actually, pretty much often in my experience of raising 11 kids being married to an earthly saint named Donna who art in heaven today.

I believe God is the Eternal Treasure Bury-er, leaving physical objects, bodies, signs and symbols throughout history (err His Story) for us to discover as our technological abilities improved. For example, on Mary’s tilma, no one knew about the optically correct photograph in the eye or the star chart until computers and photovoltaic innovations occurred..

Confession: I have been following the fascinating Shroud for four decades, often having the Steve and Nancy B speak with slides at the three churches I was staff for; also, visited the Shroud Center often when it was in HBeach and now at Santiago Retreat Center. I floated this idea a couple decades ago, heard the rumor the cloth might have candle stains and food particles on it. But, nothing QED as of yet. (Lingua Latinum for Quid Est Demonstravit: It Has been demonstrated.)
I consider the Shroud as one of the “seeing is believing” faith gifts, eternal clues like Mary’s cloak/Tilma at Tinoctitlan, many Eucharistic miracles like Terri Schiavo Schindler & Lanciano, the Great Pyramid of Egypt mentioned in Isaiah 19:19-20 (another Catholic relic/icon math/science gift) and those dead but incorrupt saints like St Padre Pio: after six decades, St Pio looks like he’s taking a nap in Italy in a Sleeping Beauty glass case.
But, the possibility that the Shroud spans four, not just three days, is intriguing for a few good reasons. Certainly, those four days, other than Jesus’ birth, are extremely important in Church history. Quaduum (my coined word) for the 4th Day.
“Fourth day”, to many in the neocanonical movements like Cursillo and Search, means the next day after a 3 day retreat: the day we evangelize what we have learned, preaching the Gospel by our actions. Using words if necessary. Quaduum Cloth would encompass from JofA’s upper room table cloth that became the first altar cloth, through the 4th day, the rest of time on earth Catholics of good will teach the world the His Story of Jesus.

A videocreed of salvation history?
Assumptions: the time after the Last Supper in Joseph of Arimathea’s upper room restaurant quickly went from a Seder celebration to a time of betrayal and dismay.
The secret disciple would have been in the shadows through the triumphant re-entry to Jerusalem a week before, possibly at the Last Supper and eventually to Golgotha. In Mark this gospel rotation, Jesus sent two disciples “into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a water jar”. They were told to follow the water bearer, talk to the master (JofA) with these words: “The Teacher says, ‘Where is my guest room where i May eat the Passover with my disciples?’
We know the two were NOT the Apostles because Mark tells us”When it was evening, He came with the Twelve.”
In Biblical alphanumerics, the number 12 symbolizes God’s power and authority, as well as serving as a perfect governmental foundation. It can also symbolize completeness or the nation of Israel as a whole. For example, Jacob (Israel) had twelve sons, each of which represented a tribe begun by a prince, for 12 princes total. Ishmael, who was born to Abraham through Hagar, also had twelve princes.
Interestingly, in Leviticus 24, God specified that twelve unleavened cakes of bread be placed every week in the temple with frankincense next to each of the two piles that were to be made. The priests were commanded to change the bread every Sabbath day. Also note, Jesus told the eleven disciples (recall, by this time, Judas had killed himself) that God had given Him ALL power and authority in both earth and heaven (God’s divine authority – Matthew 28:18). Rev 7 talks of “Twelve thousand from each tribe of Israel (144,000 total)”.
God the Ultimate Designer and Creator leaves zero to chance. Finally, Revelations describes New Jerusalem, which is made in heaven and brought to the earth by God himself, contains 12 gates made of pearl which are each manned by an angel. Over each gate will be one of the names of Israel’s twelve tribes. The walls are 144 cubits high (12 multiplied by itself – Revelation 21:16 – 17), with the city itself being 12,000 furlongs square. Of course, most Catholic/Christian scholars are aware the GPGiza was covered with 144,000 brilliant casing/cover stones
Since JofA supplied the room, would he have been in the room for the festivities? Maitre d’ or servant? But, note that after Jesus notified the betrayer of his future actions, on the table cloth ‘bought by JofA?’, He turned bread and wine into the bloodless sacrifice, known by different names such as the Eucharist, the Mass and others.
In Matthew, we read: When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus.58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.
59 Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it [in] clean linen 60 and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock.
in John: So JofA came and took his body. 39 Nicodemus, the one who had first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about one hundred pounds. 40 They took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. 41 Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. 42 So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by.
A wealthy member of the Sanhedrin, JofA had fallen in love with our Savior. As you see, he asked and got permission to be Jesus’ funeral coordinator from Pilate but he did not know until after Pilate was surprised it happened so fast, that he would be given the right to move him from Golgotha. Important to note: the tomb was close by, actually in the garden near Golgotha, that JofA had ‘bought a linen cloth, and from John 20. ‘When Simon Peter arrived after him (John), he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, 7 and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.’
Note: the Sudarium (the face cloth now in Ovieto Spain) was separate from other burial cloths, plural. Was the Last Supper Altar cloth the fine linen cloth? What was the other cloth or cloths John speaks about that he and Peter first saw.

Observations: the Shroud of Turin is approximately 14 x 3 feet long, made of a 1×3 herringbone weave, a costly and fine linen cloth more suitable to Kosher tables of the Jews than as a less expensive burial cloth.
It was folded into three sections for transport (or 1x1foot showing the Face?); I believe that St Jude Thaddeus was the transportation director after Jesus’ death and resurrection: probably folded (no Fedex or Amazon those days) for ease of carrying (he’s always pictured with a walking stick and Jesus hanging from his neck) with face out in a leather frame. 1 foot x 1 foot may be too tight a fold, but one foot square would fit on St Jude’s chest comfortably while he hiked to Edessa and beyond.
But NOOO, early Church translators! Jude didn’t have a gold medallion or Olympic medal, around his neck: he was carrying the ‘Mandylion’, the ‘image made without human hands” (hat tip “Face: the Truth”). Not taking the top platform at an Olympics award ceremony
After all, the 33ad Church didn’t have raw gold, a mint or money left after their last dinner party; Judas wasn’t the best treasurer, having squandered the ‘treasury’ and tossed the 30 silver pieces away; no dinero to strike a gold medal to hang around the Apostles and Disciples. I believe a bit too much artistic license on all those Danny Thomas St Jude Hospital cards, though i love the charity and their work.
Even today, our Church is susceptible to secularist exaggerations and frauds all too often, like androgenic climate change, for example. The Truth is fine by itself. No embellishment needed.
I am sure the rendering of a giant golden Jesus selfie was innocent, but it might be missing an incredible link within Salvation History.
Shroud ironies to be considered:
The linen altar cloth of the true Catholic Mass is 14 x 3 feet.
The Purificator used at Mass is 14″ long (x 9″ wide) and folded into three, each section being 3″ wide.
Hypothesis: NO burial shops open in Jerusalem on Friday the 13th day of Nisan on the day before the Scriptural Sabbath Passover: 14 Nisan
While enjoying the dinner, none of the disciples or apostles, maybe Mary, but not the attendants, would have suspect Jesus was just hours away from tragedy.
Time was short as Jesus was dying on the cross less than 30 hours later.
It was on Friday the 13th day of Nisan after sundown that Holy Thursday (correlated to Catholic tradition’s March 25th, the day of His conception coincident with His death: Jesus was “born to die” that we might live), the day before the actual Passover.
Minor secondary conjecture: was March 25th the first day of spring at one time, now off by calendar error, for God’s design? Hmm. Talk about layers of religio-scientific symbolism using real people and objects, connecting the GPG to the Shroud and it’s frozen in time clock of the Quaduum, with the Guadalupe cloth and OT verses on the stars, like Abraham’s descendants.

Historically,St. Peter, St. Jude, St. James, St Andrew split. The apostles had scattered and stayed at a distance, except John and His mother.
Scriptures and tradition tell us the woman and son were at the Cross to receive the gift of each other spoken by Jesus from the Cross as He was dying.
But, it was Joseph of Arimathea who took responsibility and sought Pilate’s permission; that Jesus got a proper place to rest, selflessly giving up his personal cave grave not realizing it would be a temporary motel, a motor hotel until the Savior checks out a couple days later. Think about this:

Jude is known as a healer and patron of healings, lost causes and miracles.
Even a leper king in Edessa, where the Shroud was rediscovered centuries later after a climactic event in the city, can attest to that: well, at least this Byzantine painting of a strikingly familiar burial cloth unfolded in King Abgar V’s presence. Leper no more! Did the Shroud caretaker gain his reputation because he handled the first century first class relic in his travels? The debate continues. Dates like 362 and 525ad….

Back to Jesus’ day: “The councillor (Lk 23:50) who, after the Crucifixion, requested the body of Christ from Pontius Pilate and provided for a proper burial for Christ. An immensely popular figure in Christian lore, Joseph was termed in the New Testament the “virtuous and righteous man” (Lk 23:50) and the man “who was himself awaiting the kingdom of God” (Mk 15:43). Described as …. . secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews, [he] asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. And Pilate permitted it” (In 19:38). “
From Apochrypha Nicodemus book: “Even though Joseph of Arimathea had attempted to keep his love for Jesus a secret, he boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus to be placed in his trust. This is significant in and of itself. Joseph of Arimathea, not Mary Jesus’ mother, not Mary Magdalene, or any of the apostles were entrusted with the act of taking Jesus down from the cross. Most of the apostles had fled anyway. Joseph took the body and put it in his own tomb. According to various historical sources, Joseph’s actions provoked both the Roman and Jewish elders and he eventually did spend time in prison for his support of Jesus” Well, though this dad of 11 was born before most reading this, I wasn’t there in first century Palestine to observe.
Think about this: Joseph would have had possession of the table cloth after the Last Supper; yet, unlike the holy Cross and Grail, it disappeared. Or did it? Maybe the Holy Spirit inspired Joseph just like Moses was told to strike the Rock once. Not twice?!
Suppose the Shroud was repurposed for a greater use and resides in Turin for its re-display every US census, a visual/video creed of those four most incredible days.
Possibly, as Jesus’ dying approached or before, Joseph of Arimathea realized someone would have to take charge or Jesus would have ended up in a common grave. Could it be the silent disciple was preparing his personal grave cave to receive Our Lord once Bar’Abbas, which name translates to “son of the fathers, was released and crucifixion was the Lord’s fate for real? The True Bar Abba, the Son of the Father, would die.
Would the rules of no mercantile at or after sundown on the Sabbath, which begins at sundown on Fridays, made it impossible to get adequate grave clothes for the Savior? Normally, the Jews would not have their own interred on a Friday especially near sundown. The Sudario, the cloth applied on Jesus’ face after the crucifixion and the burial shroud were discovered by Peter on Easter; note, the Sudario is NOT the face cloth of Veronica (whose name means Latin Vera ‘True’ and Greek Icon “image”= True Image).
Just a few hours before, Jesus and His Apostles experienced the Neo-Passover, the First Passover of the New Covenant and known commonly as the Last Supper.
The Altar Cloth from the bloodless Sacrifice of the true Eternal Passover Lamb had just occurred; would the wealthy Joseph have desired, possibly prompted by the Holy Spirit, to have his servants fetch or bring the Kosher table/altar cloth to the mountain top?
Throughout the Chosen Peoples’ history, many times God had specific instructions for living symbols to help chart Salvation History of His Son.
Recall, when Abraham was tested to kill his son Isaac and he obeyed until told to stand down; God rewarded him with millions, maybe billion or so descendants.
We just heard this in the OT reading in ordinary time: At that time, God shared scientific evidence (His astronomy book) of the billions of stars when he compared the number of the heavenly bodies to the sands of the seashore. Easy for Abraham to scoop up millions of sand particles; stars? Not so much.
This fact took over 1600 more years for we ignorant mankinders to realize (in Galileo’s time) the truth; the Danish Tycho Brahe believed, as late as Galileo’s day, there were about 1000 like so many others. And we want to follow the Algorean Heresy thinking man is all-powerful and controls the weather. Nuts! We can’t even count lighted dots.
Another time, Moses was told to strike the rock and water would come out. Moses half obeyed due to the pain in the butt Israelis’ attitude, but struck the rock TWICE, blowing a perfect allegory for salvation history. His reward: he lost the right to enter Milk&Honeyland, though he later saw from a distance, the Promised Land.
It took until Trump where this renewed land’s true capital was acknowledged by our covenant country, the USA in modern times. 129 other countries REFUSED to accept that the City of Peace is the capital of the Jews. For reasons of irrational politics, not faith.
But, Moses ruined God’s symbolism that the Rock/Christ would have to be struck down ONLY once to produce Living Water. No double die by our Savior
God is jealous about His methods to bring the world to His eternal Son’s eternal banquet. The ETERNAL last Supper. David did not enter the Promised Land either due to blood on his hands.
Think about this last: Jesus died once then rose. But also, the soldier whose feast day is March 15th, Longinus (born in Lanciano, Italy) the Centurion struck Christ once with the spear and produced the Living Water of our dead Savior, as well as blood. What Moses failed to do with the rod, Longinus accomplished with the lance.
Longinus was blind in one eye and spoke the truth as the first convert of the Divine Mercy: water and blood, white and red, issued forth and drenched the soldier’s eye socket..CURED! visually and spiritually. No bones, one of the completing prophecies of over 600 centered on Christ, were broken (as the Shroud recorded as part of the Apostle’s Video TapeCreed) including the hands, legs, feet or chest. Cartilage yes, skin of course. But no bones.
Back to the Quaduum. Just before they escaped Egypt’s pharoah after nine plagues, the Israelis were told to splash the blood of an unblemished, innocent lamb on their door posts.
It protected the first born boys of ANY family in Egypt, preventing them from being sacrificed. It was the Jewish families who signaled “Pass over us”, while the Egyptian first borns were all killed by the angel of death.
Never mentioned, the first Passover event/plague destroyed the first born male succession to the Pharoah throne in Eqypt: the Pharoah’s son was NOT spared by the angel of death, the 10th plague (10 the number of testimony, law and responsibility; completeness of order. 7 of perfection & completeness. 8 is the number of new beginnings, renewal, rebirth, Resurrection; Jesus symbolized by 888 from the Greek alphanumerics. 17 the number of victory, 40 of probation, testing etc.) that led to the Exodus and drowning of Pharoah’s charioteers. Pharoah lost his army and first born due to his intransigence.
The chosen were spared death due to the innocent lamb’s blood as we do today through the Mass; death “passed over” them. And a day of celebration became real, known as the Passover. We are in the jewish year 5775 and our Jewish friends still celebrate the Seder meal to this day.
Mary, shown here in her Dec 12, 1531 star chart, was at the Last Dinner, possibly directing the servants like she did at Cana. But, think about this: once Jesus said the magic words “This is my Body; this is my Blood”, the innocent Lamb’s blood was given to our first Bishops on an altar/table cloth separated inside an alabaster chalice (that resides in Valencia, Spain today venerated and used by both Pope St John Paul and Benedict XVI); the table cloth also caught any Jesus bloodless body ‘crumbs’ from the unleavened bread first resting on the table or plate. Like any good 14′ x 9″ purificator used today. Folded up, of course, to 14×3 like the Shroud.
During the Exile, the Jews took the “body nourishment” or bread with them, the same type (unleavened) that is the Host on the eternally and continuous Mass throughout the world AND eternity. Today. Living bread called manna was given them in the 40 years exodusing in the deserts; Living Bread is available to us on any day ending with “y”.
Following Palm Sunday, the Apostles received the body and blood of Our Lord for the first time at the last Supper, the first Passover of the New Covenant. Those that did not run away, watched the bloodied body of the same Savior they served for three or so years, on Calvary.
Imagine, if the bloodied True Innocent Lamb of God, the culmination of over 600 prophecies, was wrapped on Good Friday in the Altar Cloth of the first bloodless Sacrifice of the Mass, so that our sins when forgiven are PASSedOVER thanks to the FirstBorn Son of the Living God.
Meanwhile, we are reminded by another altar of the Lord in the midst and at the border of Egypt, that Jesus is the Center of the World, His Story is HiStory, center of Time and Eternity.

Jesus pointed to as the Center of the World, reflected in an ancient Catholic relic built thousands of years ago, that rests on the exact center of the world still today. Of note, a unique representation of Christ and salvation history is built into it:
the Christ Angle that draws a line over both the Exodus launch point (twin Solomonic pillars) AND the House of Bread, a city many of us sing about at Christmas: Beth’lehem.
This line and angle can be replicated easily today; mathematically, it is 26 degrees, 18 minutes, and 9.63 seconds.. In fact, the reader can see this object still true to the cardinal points of the compass by turning on their laptop or tablet, then Google Earthing it: the Great pyramid of Giza. The angle comes from inside the GPG, the ascending passageway, as a continuation of the north face adjusted by 26 degrees, 18 ” and 9.63′ (see the chart)
It is four/(eight actually noticed recently) sided object with no cornerstone on top, missing most of the super brilliant mirrored

144,000 casing stones that once graced its surface (making it the only earthly object visible from the moon) until the 1303ad earthquake turned the surface into a giant Home Depot for the mosques of Cairo, such as the Alabaster Mosque. But some remain below the sand at the GPG’s bottom: sloping 51degree 51min, these casing stones prove it wasn’t always a rock pile but a super bright, smooth building.
It sits on flat stone granite mountain of 13.6 acres.
It is 9131 inches on a side x 4 = a number many might recognize: 36524. 365.24 days in a year forcing those Feb 29ths every four years or so. And an extra one every 100. God put the sun in the sky on this rotation, combining CO2, H20 and sunlight to FEED the WORLD via Photosynthesis. In the Algorean Heretic Bible, God’s miracle work is called Pollution by the Supremes and prostiticians. Sadly
The GPG’s Apex/height to the flat top (no top (corner)stone [check your last dollar bill’s backside and see the flat top under the all seeing eye. No i’m not a FreeMason).
The bible in Isaiah 19:19-20 calls the GPG an ‘altar’ and pillar, and it’s top is 5812.98 inches. Double it (11625.96) and divide it into the length of all 4 sides (4×9131=36524 in.) equals 3.1415. The indeterminate number every 4th grader knows to compute a circle.
The GPG IS a square circle!
Many feasts in March. St Maewin Succot (Patrick) on March 17; St Joseph the 19th. Jesus was conceived and died on March 25, according to Catholic tradition. (3/25 on the Gregorian; but, on the Jewish calendar, Friday the 13th day of Nisan: see Deuteronomy and John’s Gospel for detail)
But March 14 is the secular Feast of the Pi, 3 14. The next day is the ides of March, the feast of the Eucharistic Miracle city (Lanciano) born St Longinus, who caused some of the Shroud’s type AB+ blood staining as he became the first convert and miracle post Jesus’ death.
Centurion Longinus, recall, put his spear (to satisfy prophecy #600+ of Jesus, no bones broken) into His side, water and blood (Divine Mercy imagery) came forth, healed Longinus’ blind eye and made him a true believer. Accident or Godincidence?
Back to the Catholic iconic relic GPG from Isaiah: 19 On that day there shall be an altar to the Lord at the center of Egypt, and a sacred pillar to the Lord near its boundary. 20 This will be a sign and witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt, so that when they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior to defend and deliver them.” An altar, pillar, sign and witness IN Egypt, the home of pagans at that time.
Numerous sites discuss, including the tinfoil hat crowd of crystals. But, of note, all things designed and created by God are maligned by one of His angels whose final resting place will be hellish indeed. Marriage? Divorce and unisex unions. Birth? Abortion. etc
Relevant facts(hat tip ‘ancient codes’):
“Center of Land Mass: The Great Pyramid is located at the center of the land mass of the earth. The east/west parallel that crosses the most land and the north/south meridian that crosses the most land intersect in two places on the earth, one in the ocean and the other at the Great Pyramid. (author’s note: Jesus is the Center of the World)
The four faces of the pyramid are slightly concave, the only pyramid to have been built this way. (author’s note: this concavity matches the curvature of the earth, verified by satellite technology). The centers of the four sides are indented with an extraordinary degree of precision forming the only 8 sided pyramid; this effect is not visible from the ground or from a distance but only from the air, and then only under the proper lighting conditions. This phenomenon is only detectable from the air at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes when the sun casts shadows on the pyramid. (author’s note: zero shadow at the spring equinox at high noon: conjecture: the time Jesus was nailed to the cross we venerate at high noon on Good Friday)
The granite coffer in the “King’s Chamber” is too big to fit through the passages and so it must have been put in place during construction. (author’s note: dimensions of this carved box matches that of the Ark of the Covenant). The coffer was made out of a block of solid granite. This would have required bronze saws 8-9 ft. long set of teeth of sapphires.
